State Bar of Texas and Baylor Law School leaders honored veterans at a luncheon November 11.
Baylor Law School Dean Brad Toben opened the event, which celebrated Veterans Day, and introduced State Bar President Frank Stevenson and past State Bar President Richard Pena.
Stevenson spoke about Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans and his new initiative, the Texas Opportunity & Justice Incubator, which aims to bridge the justice gap for individuals who can’t afford legal services.
Pena discussed his recently published book, Last Plane Out of Saigon, which is a reproduction of the journal he kept in the operating room of Vietnam’s largest military hospital during the final year of the war.
Baylor Law School also hosted a free clinic the same day to help veterans with estate planning, where volunteers assisted 24 veterans and their spouses, clinic organizers said.
