Houston lawyer honored for saving driver from drowning

A Houston lawyer was recognized for his quick action and heroism that saved a motorist from drowning after the man’s car plunged into the Mustang Bayou in Missouri City earlier this month.

John C. Greco is a partner in Williams, Birnberg & Andersen, LLP of Houston where he focuses on civil litigation, primarily personal injury, wrongful death, and insurance cases.

According to news reports, Greco was driving south on the Fort Bend Tollway on February 6 when he saw a car in front of him go off the road, down an embankment, and land in the water.

Greco pulled his truck over and ran down to the car to find the driver struggling inside the car. Greco pulled the man from the car and helped him to the bank.

The Fort Bend Star quoted Greco as saying, “I’m not a highly religious person, but when I said, ‘Please God save their lives,’ I felt in my heart that God was saying, ‘It’s your turn now.

“I didn’t even have to think. God saved that man’s life.”

On February 10, Fort Bend County Precinct 2 Constable Daryl Smith presented Greco with a plaque honoring his actions.
