False Or Fair? How To Tell If You’re Getting What You Deserve With Workers’ Compensation

If you have been hurt at work, you may incur thousands of dollars in medical bills or more. You may also have to deal with the prospect of not being able to work either on a temporary or permanent basis. The good news is that you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills and for lost wages. How do you know if you are getting a fair settlement in your workplace injury case?

Have You Followed Proper Procedure?

Getting your workers’ compensation claim approved is much easier if you tell your employer about the injury right away. It shows that the injury happened at work and that you sought treatment as soon as possible. You should also gather witness statements and other evidence that supports your claim. Otherwise, the insurance company may deny your claim on grounds that you weren’t hurt at work or that you exaggerated the severity of the injury.

Was the Settlement Consistent With State Law?

State workers’ compensation laws set guidelines as to how much compensation a worker may be entitled to. The law also says how long a worker must be out before qualifying for benefits and when those benefits may be paid out.
