Free legal clinic upcoming for veterans in Katy

Originally published by Amy Starnes.

Veterans and spouses of deceased veterans who need legal assistance can visit a free clinic in Katy on Sept. 24.

Veterans and spouses will receive one-one-one counsel from volunteer attorneys in a variety of areas of law, including family, wills and probate, consumer, real estate and tax, and disability and veterans benefits.

No appointments are necessary to attend the clinic, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Sept. 24 on the second floor of the Katy VA Outpatient Clinic, 750 Westgreen Blvd. The clinic is made possible by the Katy Bar Association and the Houston Bar Foundation’s Veterans Legal Initiative.

Veterans who need continuing legal representation and who qualify for legal aid will be assigned a pro bono attorney through Houston Volunteer Lawyers.

The Houston Bar Foundation also offers weekly clinics from 1 to 5 p.m. each Friday on the first floor of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, 2002 Holcombe Blvd., in Houston.
