Dr. Richard Day and his wife, nurse Jean Day have sued Uber after one of its drivers crashed while leaving a hotel in Miami Beach. The accident caused massive brain damage to Mrs. Day, who was visiting Florida from South Carolina.

Dr. Day and his wife were in town for a medical conference. The couple contacted Uber and was picked up by Ingrid Parra, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Murano. The police report states Ms. Parra crashed into another car after turning into traffic on Collins Avenue. She was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Mrs. Day has sustained brain damage and has undergone several surgeries. Dr. Day broke his leg in the accident.

The Day’s have alleged Uber failed to realize that Ms. Parra “was not qualified, had not received sufficient training and was not being supervised” properly. Uber, as well as Lyft, have been sued previously. In January, relatives of a Miami-Dade College student sued Uber after their family member died in a wreck. In November, the family of Loinier Perez, then 29 years old, sued Lyft after he was thrown from his motorcycle and killed after crashing with a Lyft driver.
