State Bar COVID-19 update: TX Supreme Court issues new orders on jury trial procedures, evictions

Editor’s note: The following message concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and other State Bar updates was sent to all members on September 18.

Supreme Court of Texas Emergency Orders

The limits eviction proceedings in certain circumstances in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control’s temporarily halting some evictions. The 25th order also requires certain information to be included with an eviction petition and citation.

The bans all in-person jury proceedings before December 1 in justice and municipal courts; permits district, county, and probate courts to hold in-person jury trials only after certain actions; perm

 

its courts to hold virtual jury proceedings in certain cases with technology provided to prospective jurors; extends the possession and access to a child provisions from previous orders; and extends the ability for an attorney professional disciplinary or disability proceeding to conduct proceedings remotely.

State Bar of Texas Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting
