The Internal Revenue Service will begin issuing a notice of certification to taxpayers with “seriously delinquent” Federal tax debt to enforce Internal Revenue Code Section 7345.  Section 7345 generally prohibits the Department of State from issuing or renewing a United States passport to a taxpayer with a seriously delinquent Federal tax debt.  The State Department may also revoke or limit any United States passport previously issued.  Our client alert provides additional details.  Please contact one of the above attorneys or another tax attorney at Thompson & Knight if you have questions about this matter.
