Originally published by Amy Starnes.

Austin-area veterans can seek free legal advice and one-on-one counseling at the following free legal clinics in August:

  • Monday, August 8: 1:30–4 p.m., Austin VA Outpatient Clinic, 7901 Metropolis Drive
  • August 15: 1–5 p.m., Gillespie County Annex Conference Room, 102 E. San Antonio St., Suite C, Fredericksburg
  • August 20: 1:30–4 p.m., Pflugerville Public Library, 1008 Pfluger St. W.
  • August 29: 1–4 p.m., Williamson County Veterans Services, 3151 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown

Veterans are encouraged to bring any paperwork relevant to their cases, such as copies of all pertinent claims, correspondence, and rulings from a court, agency, or VA. For veterans’ benefits or a discharge upgrade, bring a copy of the DD214 and any evidence related to the claim.

Attorney volunteers will not be able to provide legal services such as wills or filing for divorce at the clinic, but local legal resources will be provided if further assistance is needed.

More than 330 veterans have received assistance from 135 Austin Bar attorneys at nine clinics so far this year. Almost 3,000 veterans have received assistance at the clinics since they began in 2010, the Austin Bar Association reports.
