Texas Advocacy Project launches school supplies drive for children affected by domestic violence

With the first day of school approaching in a couple months, a new Texas Advocacy Project campaign aims to make the transition easier for families impacted by domestic violence.

The nonprofit is asking the community to donate new backpacks and school supplies to meet requests from 96 domestic violence shelters across the state for more than 1,900 backpacks through Backpacks for Hope.

The campaign aims to help make the first day of school easier for young students who have experienced domestic violence in their homes and provide information about the nonprofit’s legal services to their mothers.

The program is a partnership between the Texas Advocacy Project and Austin insurance agent Michael Walker’s Allstate office.

From June 21 through July 29, people can drop off backpacks and school supplies at Austin-area Allstate offices, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, multiple Freebirds locations, and Accenture.
