After two games, receiver Nate Washington is on a pace for 72 catches and 1,344 yards – not bad for an 11-year veteran signed as a free agent from Tennessee.
Washington, 32, has nine catches for 168 yards, an 18.7-yard average.
When Washington signed with the Texans, he said one of his goals was to help other players, to provide words of wisdom based on his experience.
Offensive coordinator George Godsey, who calls the plays, is a big Washington fan.
“I love Nate,” Godsey said after practice Wednesday. “He’s not only good in the meeting room and the locker room, but he’s always communicating with the players.
“He communicates well with the younger receivers. He communicates with the quarterbacks. There’s a lot of communication between Nate and me on the field, too.”
In other words, Washington is like an extra coach on and off the field.
