Fromi USA Listeria cheese recall

According to a recall notice released by the US Food and Drug Administration, Fromi USA has announced a recall of two of its cheeses due to potential Listeria contamination.

The New York company is recalling a total of nine cases of cheese after testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in the products. The recall includes seven cases of Soureliette cheese and two cases of Tomme Brebis Fedou.

The recalled cheese products recalled match the following specifications:

The recalled Soureliette cheese came packaged in 3-pound boxes. The recall includes cheese marked with one of three different expiration dates, which are stamped on the top of the box. The expiration dates affected by the recall are 02/22/2017, 01/25/2017, and 08/02/2017.

The Tomme Brebis Fedou cheese was also sold in three-pound boxes. Only one expiration date is covered in the recall; that date, also stamped on the top of the box, is 02/22/2017.

Both the recalled Tomme Brebis Fedou and Soureliette cheese were distributed to retail stores in California, New York and Massachusetts.

According to the recall notice, the potential contamination “was noted after routine testing by the foreign supplier revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in 3lb packages of Tomme Brebis Fedou cheese and Soureliette.”

Healthy individuals infected with Listeria generally experience symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, according to Fromi USA’s recall notice, which states that the microorganism “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

Fromi USA also notes that Listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.
