The Washington Post reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continuously strives to increase the numbers of recalled cars that actually go in for repairs. In the article a NHTSA Senior Official notes that in the coming decades autonomous vehicle makers “will be able to essentially remedy a recall without actually ever having to go into a dealership,” adding that having defects remedied “is ultimately what we’re looking for from a safety standpoint.” In their guidelines for autonomous vehicles released this week, NHTSA requested that automakers notify car owners “any time software updates ‘materially change’ the manner in which the vehicles function.”
