Dallas-area lawyers raised $1,031,314 for pro bono legal services for the poor as part of the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program’s “Equal Access to Justice Campaign.”
Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP) is a joint program of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas. The program provides free legal assistance to more than 4,000 low-income families each year by hosting legal clinics each month at seven community locations. DVAP also provides specialty clinics for veterans and the elderly.
Campaign proceeds will be used to expand DVAP’s work in the community, according to a news release from the Dallas Bar Association on the accomplishment. DVAP will focus its efforts on recruiting more volunteer attorneys to represent clients in more complex cases and contested family law cases, the release said.
Co-chairs of the fundraising campaign were Bill Mateja of Fish & Richardson PC and Victor Vital of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. David R. McAttee II, senior executive vice president and general counsel of AT&T Inc., was honorary chair.
