NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks, a former player and scout, recently ranked his top 20 coordinators in the league.
Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel came in at No. 6. Here’s what Brooks had to say about the veteran NFL coach:
It didn’t take long for Crennel to put his imprint on the Texans’ defense with cutting-edge schemes and meticulous attention to detail. The savvy defensive play caller quickly transformed Houston’s D into a takeaway machine (the Texans led the NFL with 34 forced turnovers) by demanding assignment discipline and situational awareness at all times.
Among defensive coordinators only, Brooks had Crennel at No. 3.
Josh McDaniels (New England) and Rod Marinelli (Dallas) were ranked as the top offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively. However, both flamed out as head coaches at previous gigs, as McDaniels was fired in Denver during his second season and Marinelli presided over the 2008 Lions, the only NFL team to go 0-16.
