Slip & fall claim against Wal-Mart now in federal court

WalmartSignA slip and fall lawsuit brought by a local mother claiming her minor daughter was injured at a Wal-Mart store has been transferred to federal court.

Beulah Reutiman, as next friend of A.M.H., a minor child, filed a lawsuit Sept. 24 in Jefferson County District Court against Wal-Mart Stores Texas, citing negligence.

Court records show that on Oct. 21 a notice of filing removal was filed, stating the case had been removed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division.

According to the complaint, A.M.H. was at the Wal-Mart store on Memorial Boulevard in Port Arthur on May 10, 2014, when she slipped on a liquid on the floor and fell, sustaining serious injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence and gross negligence in allowing the dangerous condition to remain on the premises.

In her original petition, Reutiman sought more than $200,000 in damages, including exemplary and punitive damages, medical expenses, interest and court costs.
