NBC Nightly News reported that in an “outrageous affront” to American World War II veterans, a congressional study found that of the more than 4,000 veterans who say they were “intentionally exposed to mustard gas in secret experiments,” the “VA rejected 90% of their claims for lack of adequate records.” According to 96-year-old veteran Robin Edwards, the gas chamber was “absolute torture.” Despite the VA’s claim that it “remains committed to provide benefits to victims of mustard gas,” Sen. Claire McCaskill has introduced legislation that would “force the VA to open every claim it ever rejected.”
