One of the primary reasons the Texans lost Sunday to the Buffalo Bills is the amount of mental mistakes they committed.
//
That came in the form of 10 penalties for 89 yards with penalties on offense, defense and special teams, including an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as the Texans’ four-game winning streak came to a halt. During their winning streak, the Texans averaged just 5.3 penalties per contest.
“Definitely, I have to agree with you on that,” veteran wide receiver Nate Washington said. “We’ve been playing so well and under control with what we do, so definitely surprising that we had that, but it’s a gladiator game. In the heat of the game, you just have to be under control of what you do and understand that this is a team sport.
“It can’t be a one-man sport out there to create a penalty, so we have to rely on each other a little better, have to clean up the penalties and understand how to get better with our techniques.”
